Max Raabe's first solo album, "Übers Meer" ("Across The Seas"), will be released on January 15, 2010

CD Übers Meer bestellenThe sea is a romantic metaphor - a symbol for yearning and departure, farewell and homesickness. In the 1930s and 1940s, legendary composers and lyricists like Fritz Rotter, Hans May, Walter Reisch, and Werner Richard Heymann - all of Jewish origin - had to emigrate to the USA, thus literally "crossing the sea". Now on this atmospheric CD, Max Raabe unified their schlager and cabaret songs in a song cycle. Only accompanied by his pianist Christoph Israel, Raabe offers tender, fragile renditions, yet devoid of any sugariness, of classic songs like "Ninon", "Irgendwo auf der Welt" ("Somewhere In The World"), and "Ein Lied geht um die Welt" ("A Song Goes Round The World").
